ACTING LAB
Malevich Lab is an independent acting studio and theatre collective based in Melbourne.
The training is focused on truthful performance, imagination, physical action, and ensemble work. Inspired by European theatre traditions and Stanislavski-based approaches, the work explores acting not as imitation, but as a living creative process.
Rather than teaching fixed formulas or “performing emotions,” the training encourages actors to build real relationships, impulses, and behaviour on stage through improvisation, scene creation, movement, and psychological action.
Malevich Lab combines elements of classical actor training with contemporary ensemble practice, creating a space for actors to develop presence, imagination, emotional depth, and creative freedom.
The studio welcomes both beginners and experienced performers interested in deeper, process-oriented acting work.
An important part of the process is the connection between training and live performance. The work developed during classes is ultimately shared with an audience through showcases, open scenes, and theatre productions, allowing actors to experience the reality of performance and creative collaboration.

Мalevich Theatre is an independent contemporary theatre company shaped by the traditions of Eastern European ensemble and psychological theatre.
Originally emerging from Malevich Lab — a platform for actor training and theatrical experimentation — the company has grown into a professional independent theatre focused on original productions and long-term artistic collaboration.
While Malevich Lab remains a space for research and training, Malevich Theatre operates as a separate artistic company with its own productions, ensemble and creative direction. Selected students and emerging actors may later become part of the theatre’s professional work.
Our creative process is deeply connected to the individuality of the actors we work with. Rather than beginning with fixed casting ideas, we often develop productions through the energy, presence and personal qualities of the ensemble itself. This approach allows each project to grow organically and find its own theatrical language.
Our performances combine emotional realism, physical theatre, live music and experimental form.
For us, contemporary theatre is not about trends or distance. It is about urgency, transformation and human presence.
